History of the Ford Shelby 350H* When Shelby American general manager Peyton Cramer approached Hertz Rental Car about adding the GT350 to its Sports Car Club fleet, the company ordered 200 cars, all in the Hertz colors of black with gold stripes. Later, Hertz upped the order to 1,000 cars, some with white, blue, and red exteriors. The Hertz program helped Shelby production reach 2,378 for 1966, including four convertibles at the end of the production run. In some cases, GT350H’s were rented specifically for weekend track Competition, then returned on Monday.
