Description: Winner receives a signed oil painting on canvas by well listed French artist François Charles Cachoud (1866-1943). The painting depicts a Barbizon landscape with a cottage on a lake and is signed in the lower right corner, seen magnified in picture 6. The painting is in very good condition, but it does have some issues. There is an old repair on the verso, seen magnified in picture 10. There is also a small puncture in the center of the canvas with attendant losses, along with two small paint chips in the same area, seen in picture 5. There are a few small scattered areas of in-painting visible under ultra violet lighting. The original frame need some attention. There is a 2" loss in the bottom left corner, seen magnified in picture 7. In addition, along the top and right edge, the inner frame has separated from the frame itself. Please magnify pictures 8 & 9 to see the damage described, as it's easier to look at than describe in words. If the painting is removed from the frame, it should be a relatively easy repair. The painting can be hanged as-is, but will really shine with a light restoration and frame repair. The frame measures roughly 26.25" x 29.25", with the image measuring roughly 20" x 23.5". Below is some information about the artist, whose auction results include sales up to $11,022. Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have prior to bidding or making an offer. Born in Chambéry in the Savoie region of France on October 23, 1866, François Charles Cachoud received his artistic training at the École des Beaux Arts (School of Fine Arts) in Paris. In 1891, he made his debut at the French Salon in Paris where he exhibited regularly until 1940. He won a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1937 and was decorated as a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honor) in 1910.Cachoud’s works can be seen in a number of museums including the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Chambéry, Musée du Petit Palais, Paris, (France); and Philadelphia Museum of Art (USA).
