Description: THE KIDNAPPED MARE AND HER SECRETARIAT COLT Plate #4156 in the limited edition of 19,500. This American Artists Collector Plate by artist Fred Stone is a gorgeous painting of a mother horse and her young colt. The plate has a beautiful gold rim decorated with mares and foals. Story on the back side: "On June 25, 1977, the mare Fanfreluche, in foal to Secretariat, was missing from Lexington, Kentucky. Canada's horse of the year in 1970, personally honored by the Queen of England, had been kidnapped. On June 26th, the McPhersons who live sixty miles from Lexington received a phone call asking about a loose horse. The McPhersons took her in and put up notices advertising a lost horse. Mrs. McPherson tried to ride her, but the horse was too high-spirited for her. They even considered selling her at a poundage sale for $200 to $300, but by now, she had become too much of a pet. As time went on, the mare showed signs of being pregnant. On Christmas Eve, an FBI agent knocked on the McPhersons' door and ended the mystery of the kidnapped mare." Pre-owned in excellent condition, like-new. No box or COA. Measures 6.5" in diameter and 3/4" in height. It can be displayed on a stand or wall hanging using a wire bracket.
