Description: In 1894 the New York and Maryland Provinces of the Society of Jesus were still joined. Jamaica was assigned them as a mission territory, a responsibility assumed by the New England Province in 1926. In 1917, Father General Wlodimir Ledochowski asked the New YOrk Province to send men to work in Bombay , India. The British Government was given a list of predominantly Irish missionary names for visa approval. None were acceptd. Apparently with the Easter Rebellion of 1916 still fresh in their minds, the British were not enthusiastic about introducing missionaries of IRish background into India. In 1961 the Mission of Society of Jesus considered Nigeria. This is the history of that mission.
