Description: This Japanese chisel was hand-forged by Chuutarou Imai aka Fujihiro or Nijihiro, a famous blacksmith using traditional techniques with laminated steel construction. The high carbon steel provides an extremely sharp edge while the soft backing steel provides toughness and durability. Condition: This is a new old stock item. There are some marks and finish loss from storage. This is a new item so it will have to be set up and sharpened before use. The style is Damekiri, popular in Hokkaido, typified by how the neck smoothly transitions into the blade, rather than the bulky shoulders that most Japanese chisels have. The smooth transition is more comfortable for paring work. The size is similar to a Chu-Tataki, in-between Tataki Atsu and Oire. Thicker and more durable than smaller Oire Nomis, this is a good choice as a general-purpose chisel that can easily handle heavy chopping work but also works well for detailed work and paring. With a metal hoop to prevent splitting of the wood handle, it is meant to be hit with a genno or metal hammer.
