Description: G. Mennen Williams Photo Christmas Cards, 1950-1981. 30 different Christmas Cards, each featuring a photo of the family (including the dog in many). The first five are in and Black & White, with 1956 and later being in full color. Inexplicably missing 1952 and 1971 to be complete, these holiday greetings nevertheless provide a photographic history of the growing family of "the man with the bow-tie". Gerhard Mennen "Soapy" Williams was born February 23, 1911. The 41st governor of Michigan, elected in 1948 and served six two-year terms in office. In 1961, Williams assumed the post of Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs. In 1968 he was named by President Johnson to be Ambassador to the Philippines. Williams was elected to the Michigan Supreme Court in 1970 and was named chief justice in 1983, serving in that capacity through 1986. He died on February 2, 1988. All cards are in well preserved, very fine condition and of important historical significance. Shipping to anywhere in the United States by Priority mail is just $ 8.80.
