Description: Attention Collectors!!! You are bidding on a very rare, antique GAR medal. The medal is for the Major How, Post No. 47 G.A.R. Haverhill, Massachusetts - 38th Encampment, Boston, Massachusetts. It took place in 1904. This is is very good-sized medal. From top to bottom it measures approximately 9 1/2" tall and is 3" wide. The top metal part says Grand Army of the Republic. It shows an eagle on top of American flag with GAR logo below that. It has patent info on the reverse side. The metal piece below that one shows the same info and graphics. This piece has become detached from the ribbon (see photo). The Major How post was named after Major Henry Jackson How who was killed while gallantly leading his men in the fierce conflict of Nelson's Farm, June 30, 1862. This is a very rare GAR medal!
