Description: Add a pop of color, vintage vibes, and some moody mushroom flair to your home or office space with this unique vintage Generalaire General Fireproofing Company Steel Tanker Desk from the 1960s-1970s. This is a true gem for anyone seeking a fun, funky piece for their decor. The desk is made of durable Formica, aluminum, and steel materials. This double pedestal steel desk features four utility drawers, one filing drawer, one locking stationery drawer (I do not have the key), and two letter trays, providing plenty of storage space for your office needs. The desk has a removable modesty panel in the middle that can be adjusted to be used as a foot rest as well. I refinished it myself using Kilz primer, Sherwin Williams Interior Showcase Satin Paint in Amaryllis, and Rethunk Junk Flat Top top coat applied with roller and brush. I also added a mushroom drawer liner in tones of black, green, orange, pink, and coral to complement the colors of the desk. The liner is in all drawers except the stationery and filing drawers. The green formica top is original, and I did not make any updates to the top. The brushed aluminum handles and trim are original to the desk, and I did not make any changes to those, either, aside from a good cleaning. The aluminum legs, trim, and handles do show signs of wear, as do the insides of the drawers that I did not paint or cover. While the top is in excellent vintage condition, it does have some scratches as well. There is also one small dent on the back. You can see signs of wear in the photos. The legs are also missing the plastic feet for the bottom, so the metal sits directly on the floor. You may be able to replace them, but I could not find any replacements for this exact desk. It was manufactured in the United States sometime after 1968, likely the 1970s. It is really, really heavy, and is a sturdy and durable piece. Before making it to me, it was in a corporate office in Atlanta, GA and then in the home office of a metro-Atlantan from the 1990s until 2023. I will provide some touch up paint upon purchase.
