By the spring of 1944 the 336th Fighter Squadron- 4th Fighter Group had fully converted from the Republic P-47 Thunderbolts to the new aerodynamic North American P-51B Mustangs. Two fighter pilots who became legends during this period were Don S. Gentile and his wingman John T Godfrey. Gentile's P-51 Shangri-la leads an attack on the German Luftwaffe deep inside the Reich. By the end of his career in 1974, he received 33 decorations and distinctions. In April 2008, he authored and published the book, The Flying Greek, where he meticulously recorded all of his personal flying adventures and detail war fighting experiences. The book bears comments by his friends and renowned UASF aviators, Gabby Gabreski and Charles "Chuck" Yeager. The Artist, Henry Godines: Nature and the imagination are the two basic elements that inspire Henry's art. His wide range of interests make for a variety of topics and themes in his realistic style of painting. His topics range from western and military history to contemporary scenes. Although his preference in paint mediums leans toward oils, he is also fluent with acrylic paints as well as water colors. Well versed in the precise and disciplined art of realism, he always manages to include a good amount of spontaneity which, in his opinion, is an essential element in producing balanced works of art.
