Description: This was purchased for me by my dad when we were stationed in the Philippines right after the war. The Igarots of Northern Luzon are known mostly as farmers but these weapons reflect a more violent past. I never saw a dangerous Igarot but they say, Americans never do. The place I remember was way up high in the mountains around Baggio. The shaped head is 15 and 3/8th inches from point to spike. The head and shaft mounted on a very hard wood shaft.. The iron is slightly rusted but real no pitting. This is an authentic piece but NOT from 1890. The quality is fine as a native can hand work a weapon like this. Wonderful, is the overall condition. Still, the work is primitive and the assembly is hand-hammered. I have no idea how rare these are but I have never personally seen another. Probably suited for the advanced collector of ethnic weapons, or the aficionado of Philippine weapons. The Igorot are the indigenous people of the Cordillera Mountain Range of Northern Luzon and authentic Igorot head axes are rarely offered for sale.
