This single 537-500 is appears to be the late 50's to early 60's factory black version. The original black paint shows very well with only light signs of wear (scuffs, etc.) This single 537-500 with hardware (heavy) weighs 32lbs 4oz unpacked weight. FYI: The original horn and lens assembly alone weighs approx 25lbs unpacked. The 537-500 was originally created for professional theater or studio application.___________________________________________________________________ There were not many available for private sale up until approx 15 years ago. This is when a seller in Asia began reproducing these, and selling them on eBay. At the time when they were first produced the seller specified them to be reproduction. Some time afterwards a U.S. buyer bought out all remaining inventory (and tooling); and began manufacturing them to look like the vintage genuine article. He painted them in various finishes with different repro badges - and made no mention that they were reproduction. They were responsible for flooding the vintage audio market (multiple websites) with these reproductions; hence negatively affecting the values. In the meantime, very few "Genuine" 537-500's have surfaced for sale over this time-frame. Unfortunately most buyers are unaware of the difference between the very high quality vintage JBL made versions - and the inferior reproductions.____________________________________________________________________ This particular rarity came from a So Cal estate where the original owner passed over 20 years ago; and the horn was being stored away since. This (single) is complete and unmolested with its original hardware. the original factory black finish shows very clean. There is also barely any oxidation on the lens assembly. The fragile and original (water transfer) logo has deteriorated with age; but this original badge does prove the horn's authenticity (made by JBL). Finding original and genuine 537-500's is quite uncommon as many experts can attest. Please review all attached photos; and be sure to ask any questions.
