Description: American Encaustic Tiling Co., Vernon, Los Angeles, CA 1919-1933 AET of Zanesville, OH in 1919 purchased the West Coast Tile Co., who had purchased California China Products Co. The trade name kaospar name comes a feldspathic clay deposit in San Diego. This vintage tile has raised lines separating the matte glazes. Measures 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" x 3/8" thick. Very good condition; has very minor edge wear. Signed, never set. Appears in Norman Karlson's book: Encyclopedia of American Art Tiles, Region 6, page 33-see photo 3.
