In the future (as there will be many more), all works in this series will go under the "GSC" acronym. This particular piece is classified as a "Calculated Linear-Geometric Abstract Compositional Work." It was done with mixed media on canvas. Some of mixed media includes: Oil stick, Oil Pastel, Varied Viscosity Acrylics, Paint Altering Drying Mediums.I have worked long and hard over the past 20 years now, through both extensive personal study and endless process experimentation, to reach this point in my geometric-abstract work. My personal (and really quite spiritual) attachment goes deep for the artists that do this type of work. I have the utmost respect and true reverence for all those mesmerizing geometric abstractionist painters that came before me. To name just a few, artists like: George Braque, Pablo Picasso, Piet Modrian, Jean Metzinger, Paul Cezanne, Franz Cline, and many others. But there is one, - one artist, that is the absolute driving spirit behind my need in creating this type of work. I have read most everything he has written, and viewed his works 1,000 times over. I am in tune with his inner most feelings in his writings, and his heartfelt concepts on "the spiritual in art" as well. Sometimes, in all honesty, the whole thing is a bit more than just eery to me. Because in many ways, I feel as though his blood runs through me when when I create my own geometric work. His passion to create abstract work, as he was the very first, - is yet unrivaled. His natural sense for linear-geometric imagery were largely produced (at ease) through his specific brain type. It allowed him to see these fantastic constructs in his mind, extract them,...and put them down on canvas. I have to say, - I see it, feel it, and can extract and apply it, ..in very much the same fashion.I am speaking of no other than the father of abstract painting itself, and as well the father of linear-geometric abstraction....Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky believed that abstractionist work was the purest and most honest of all art forms, - and I fully agree. It is the only work in which the very Soul and Artistic DNA of it's creator can be truly revealed. It is, - at it's best, ...untainted from any earthly pressures or academic demands, - and is completely removed from all man-made influence. Wassily Kandinsky has written numerous wonderful and revealing quotes on abstractionism. I will leave you with but one, - but a beautiful one at that:" The true work of art is born from the 'artist': a mysterious, enigmatic, and mystical creation. It detaches itself from him, it acquires an autonomous life, becomes a personality, an independent subject, animated with a spiritual breath, the living subject of a real existence of being. ” - Wassily Kandinsky Result for the viewer: As with virtually all of Kandinsky's compositional works, there is a lot going on here also in my GCS #1. Subjective focal points, linear planes, and natural symmetries, - were all preconceived/designed and then instituted into the work. In the end, revealing a powerful and dramatic "ultra-vibrancy" throughout this geometric composition. There are several select 3D dimensional references and implications built within the framework of this piece, and they are greatly enhanced through the linear leveling and use of a select color palette. The hard "dark-light" linear overlaps are designed to enhance the static and non-static elements of the piece. The balance between these static and non-static elements in the work, gives it visual solidarity and stability in some areas, - while then motion and significant movement (and with movement, then energy) in others.I could speak for hours on the work, but put concisely, ~ viewed in either parts or as a whole...this work should captivate and then challenge the viewers senses..no matter how many times you view it. I hope you have enjoyed your viewing and brief discussions on the Geometric Compositional Series work today entitled "GCS #1.For more detailed information on this piece please go to the links below for contact info.
