Description: For your Knife Collection is a George Wostenholm & Son Stag Handle Bowie with the Famed I*XL Trademark. Classically Stamped on the Blade is I*XL over GEO. WOSTENHOLM & SON. over SHEFFIELD-ENGLAND. The ricasso carries the Famed I*XL Trademark. A unique aspect to this Bowie Knife is the etched writing on the blade stating Original design by Colonel James Bowie. This beautiful knife is fitted with thick Stag Horn scales. 9-3/4" Bowie Blade and measures 15" in overall length with a Brass guard. This listing is more for the Bowie Knife but it does come with a presentation frame lined in green felt and silver chains to hold the knife in place. Inside the case is a news clipping of this knife stating, “In the 1830’s Jim Bowie ordered several knives like this one from the George Wostenholm firm in England. Note the trademark “I*XL” which is on all Wostenholm cutlery. This one has stag handle.” George Wostenholm (1800-1876) came from a line of cutlers going back to the mid-1700s. George is actually George III and is the Son to George Jr. (1775-1834) who started the George Wostenholm & Son partnership in 1825. The son George is the cutler that spearheaded the Wostenholms to the head of Sheffield knife making and help increase knife sales in the United States. Please look at the pictures which are part of the description. The pictures do not do this Bowie justice as I am not a photographer. This is a Great Piece to add to Your Collection. Note: the stand is for display purposes only and is not part of this listing. I will be listing knife stands and display cases so if you are interested please inquire. Thank you. Price may be negotiable so please feel free to make a reasonable offer. I am a Retired Veteran and I have been collecting edged weapons since I was knee high to a grasshopper. All of the blades I list are part of my personal collection. All of my War Era and Combat knives are from Veterans who collect edged weapons or from the estates of Veterans.
