DATED 1943, SIGNED, OIL ON CANVAS, Vintage 40's era framing and as found untouched. "Born in Budapest, Hungary on January 5, 1889, Kende studied at the National Academy of Art in Budapest, also in Italy and France. He died there on September 2, 1952. Member: California Art Club; Painters & Sculptors of Los Angeles; Society of Western Artists. Edan Hughes, "Artists in California, 1786-1940"" SIZE: APROX. 21.5x25.5 INCHES FRAMED, APROX. 16x20 UNFRAMED CONDITION: Could use a professional cleaning, as found (see photos). A light surface abrasion on the right side of the painting, looks to be a soft scrape and is in need of a touch up in this area. Has not been removed from or examined outside of frame. Otherwise oil on canvas appears to be in good visible condition. Original period frame with some light wear to edges due to age (see photos). As found, untouched antique condition. DETAILS: Superb portrait example by important listed California artist, Geza Kende. Well listed and exhibited many works in the mid 1940s 40s in California, this work is dated 1943 and may have been exhibited during this period, further research is needed on the name of the sitter and more subject details. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right, "Geza Kende". All original components from the period.
