Description: 800x600 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Giant Ruby Clevenger Lily Leaf South Jersey Glass free blown From its founding in 1930, to its closure in 1999, the artisans at the Clevenger Brothers Glass Company of Clayton, New Jersey were known to produce hand blown glass that could fool the experts, blowing classic reproductions of early American South Jersey glass. Among the free-blown glass made at Clevengers was the lily leaf whimsey. The production of Lily Leaves was a frequent occurrence at Clevenger Brothers between 1930 and the 1960s, made necessary when any molten glass remaining in the furnace tank needed to be used up before adding batch ingredients to the tank for the next day’s blowing. The Lily Leaf was a whimsey that could be made quickly, and one that could be sold, a profitable alternative to emptying the tank by ladling out the remaining glass. While lily leaves themselves were usually not a rarity, those made in the jumbo size were made in smaller numbers. This lily measures 11½ inches long and is in good condition. There are a bunch of tiny surface dings in the bowl of this piece, but no cracks radiating from them. (Most are visible in the photos.)
