Description: Gino Hollander Mid Century Modern Art Painting. Original Oil painting, signed and dated '73 in the lower left hand corner. This is an oil painting that belonged to my mother and hung in her (non-smoking) house since it's purchase from the gallery in New York City around the same time as it was painted. It is a beautiful example of his combination of portraiture and abstract expressionism. It is in excellent vintage condition, still bright and beautiful. It would be a stunning addition to any home. Size: canvas: 24" X 42", framed: 25 1/2" X 43 1/2" Gino Hollander was born in New Jersey in 1924 and attended Rutgers University and Hobart and William Smith College.Hollander took up painting in 1960. From 1960 to 1962, he ran his first Hollander Gallery on Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village, New York.He mingled with artist Jackson Pollock, raced actor/driver Steve McQueen in his ’57 Chevy, and was requested by Rockwell to paint for a presidential commission. He played host to author, James Michener, and Italian opera star, Luciano Pavarotti. In 1962, Hollander moved his family to Spain. He continued painting, showing his work internationally. In 1982, he and his wife opened Museo Hollander in Spain, showcasing his works for more than 50,000 visitors. In 1990, they donated the museum to the Spanish government. They lived in Aspen, Colorado until 2009, when they moved to Ojai, California until his death.
