The bottom of the box has a "bottom plate" which shows the color schemes of Major Raooul Lufbery, 2LT Philip Davis, 1LT Eddie Rickenbacker (America's top ace), Major John Huffer, LT John Wentworth, and 1LT Douglas Campbell, all from the 94th Squadron, and 1LT Ralph O'Neill from the 147th Aero Squadron. 297 Nieuport 28C.1's were purchased from France for use by American pilots during the war. All-in-all a good airplane, it did have a tendency to shed its upper wing. Many were used in the American arsenal into the 1920's in the US.
