Description: 1880s Ore Knob Copper Mine gold vein ore quartz on one side of the gold pocket and silver sulfide on the other side of the gold specimen. Cut from a larger ore large slab is currently available of the same ore. Historic registered North Carolina deep earth. filled and nonproducing mine shaft specimen that no longer exists. Mine information can be found online. 3-inches x 1-1/2 inches x 3/4 inch. Early United States deep earth mined ore. Incorporated mid-1800s mine and town that predates the incorporating date back to even the early beginnings of the United States. Measurements from the longest points of the shape that tapers to a point with an even thickness. Close to 4 ounces in weight. 90 grams. Heavy for the size of it. Natural unpolished cut slab. Gold can be seen on the outer surface and also show signs of gold intermingling in the silver sulfide, and a little copper and gold on the edge. Large gold spots show on the outer surface and specks in the silver sulfide area. Quartz has an amber yellow color to whiter clear. No magnetic properties. Silver will tarnish over time and turns bluish black. Gold in this unpolished ore shows very well in the unpolished surface and is all the way through the thickness of the small end cut slab.
