Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful large Wave Crest Art Glass 7" dresser box in the "Baroque Shell" mold by the C. F. Monroe Co., c. 1900. Measures 7" in diameter and 4" high. Weighs 2.2 pounds. Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then hand decorated. Originally called "Opal Ware", this glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. Washington Glass Co. and was purchased by the C. F. Monroe Co. as undecorated glass blanks to be decorated by their artists. This lovely box features a soft pink (almost blush) colored background with enameled daisies in the center top surrounded by blue scrolls outlined in iridescent lavender enamel. Both the size and mold shape of this box fall in the hard-to-find category and this example is stunning. The top and base are fitted with a decorative brass band. The hinge is tight and opens and closes correctly. Interior silk lining has been removed. This lovely box is in very good Estate condition with no major problems or repairs although there is one flaw on the lid to the right of the closure (see photos). The background color is not faded nor is the paint worn. Minor wear on the brass bands (see photos) - no other noted flaws. Pictured on page 90 of book "Wave Crest: The Glass of C. F.
