Description: DATING TO THE 1890’S THIS IS A VERY RARE AND UNUSUAL GOWN. I HAVE HAD MANY OF THESE GOWNS OVER THE YEARS BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE IN A SOLID BLACK COLOR. ONE PIECE IN CONSTRUCTION IN PRINCESS STYLE AND IS FASHIONED OF A BLACK SILK DE CHINE THAT IS HEAVILY RUCHED GATHERED THROUGHOUT. WIDE SET NECKLINE WITH SHORT SLEEVES HAVING AN ANGLED BOTTOM. EACH SLEEVE IS TRIMMED IS TRIMMED IN SILK VELVET RIBBONS WITH A SEQUINED AND JET BEADED CENTER WITH SMALL DANGLES. SKIRTING FALLS FULL AND FLARES. THE INTERIOR IS LINED IN SILK TAFFETA AND IS FULLY BONED THROUGHOUT WITH SILK TAFFETA THROUGHOUT THE SKIRTING. THE BOTTOM IS IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE A BUCKRAM BASE THAT IS BOUND IN WOOL AND FULLY COVERED IN RUFFLES OF DENSE SILK TAFFETA. HOOK AND EYES CLOSE THE REAR. THE INNER PETERSHAM BELTING IS MISSING ITS SIDES BUT THE LABEL REMAINS AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO READ BUT APPEARS TO READ LAMARISOUES PARIS. CONDITION: MOST EXCEPTIONAL, STRONG AND WEARABLE. THERE IS SOME LIGHT WEAR TO THE TIPS OF THE INNER BONES WITH SOME SMALL WEAR TO THE SILK RIBBON ALONG THE INTERIOR EDGE NECKLINE. SEVERAL PINHEAD HOLES TO THE SILK TAFFETA THAT ARE SLIGHT JUST ASIDE THE UNDERARMS THAT ARE NOT SEEN FROM THE EXTERIOR. TWO SMALL PULLS TO THE SILK TAFFETA ON THE BELTING EDGE OF THE EXTERIOR, I PERSONALLY WOULD ADD A TRIM TO FULLY RESOLVE. SMALL ABSENCES TO THE WOOL BINDING AT THE BOTTOM ARE UNSEEN AS THE SILK FULLY COVERS. A WONDERFUL AND RARE MUSEUM QUALITY ANTIQUE PIECE OF PARIS COUTURE.
