Description: FRANCIS W. PICKENS. Important Civil War-dated autograph letter signed by, “F.W. Pickens,” as Governor of South Carolina ordering swords and pistols for the 7th South Carolina Infantry less than two months after the Battle of Fort Sumter: “The officers of Col. [Thomas Glascock] Bacon’s regt: desire swords & pistols. You will please give them to Adjt: [D.] Wyatt Aiken for the Regt.” IMPORTANT CIVIL WAR-DATED AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR FRANCIS W. PICKENS ORDERING SWORDS AND PISTOLS FOR THE 7TH SOUTH CAROLINA INFANTRY LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AFTER THE BATTLE OF FORT SUMTER Sent to Ordnance Officer Edward Manigault, contains one page on State of South Carolina Head Quarters letterhead with docketing on the verso, measures 9.75 by 7.5 inches, created in [Columbia] on June 3, 1861, and in fine condition with light soiling and staining and three very small repairs on the verso. “THE OFFICERS OF COL. BACON’S REGT: DESIRE SWORDS & PISTOLS. YOU WILL PLEASE GIVE THEM TO ADJT: WYATT AIKEN FOR THE REGT.” The 7th South Carolina Infantry fought at the Battles of First Manassas, Seven Days Battles, Savage’s Station, Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Siege of Knoxville, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Valley Campaigns, and Bentonville.
