I'll go right out and say it upfront - as my own jaw was just about ' dropped ' when I caught the initial & official word that the 1990 Show from the " 30 Trips " Box Set ... would unbelievable ' Not ' be a " Brent-Show " ?? As for sure I thought we were all but ' guaranteed ' one of the Summer Tour '90 " Heaters " - which has yet to be released - like say ... 7/12/90 RFK ! - 2/27/90 Oakland - Cal State U. ( ' Either ' Show ! ) - Cal Expo '90 ? - Shoreline '90 !! - Mighty Autzen ! '90 !!! - or, maybe even more-realistically ... say - 7/14/90 Foxboro !! - 7/16/90 Buffalo !! - Sandstone '90 ? - Louisville '90 ?! - Raleigh, NC '90 ? - ' Either ' Deer Creek '90's !! - or, why-not say ... 7/21/90 ?! - 7/22/90 ?!! ..... " 7/23/90 - Chicago !!! " ??? I mean ... I'd probably go with 7/12/90 RFK - 7/16/90 Buffalo - 7/14/90 Foxboro myself - just Picking " Top 3 " ? But, this also obviously being because 7/8/90 Three Rivers ! - has indeed been " Unleashed " !! And, obviously ... all of the " Spring 1990 Tour " was pro-released previously. But, instead ... a ' Very-Interesting ' Pick here. And, after much thought ... I guess I have convinced myself that it does make some sense here. Simply because there were Eleven ( 11 ) " Brent-Shows " from 1979-1989 in the " 30-Trips " Box - and, let's be honest here ... as sometimes it just makes sense to look through the ' windshield ' - versus say the ' rear view mirror '. Which, is a sobering & so-realistic approach really - and especially ... for " All ! " of those on Dead Tour in this Era ( like Me ! ). I mean ... we ' All ' knew that there is, was, and never-ever will be ' Anyone ' who can replace Brent Mydland - " No-One ". But, I myself ( like many ) were in the Camp that felt ... " The Show Should Go-On ! ". And, it was all about at times literally ' forcing ' yourself to look to the Future ! - you know, instead of say - like ... crying over spilled milk. But, you know - Far-More ! serious & so incredibly sad. As Deadheads from at least my generation were at times pretty much getting your Ticket torn at the Gate " To ! " See-Brent !! Well knowing that Jerry would probably ( likely ) meet and/or exceed the Dead-Magic ! that Brent was bringing - and, Weir was doing his fair-share of " Show-Stopping ! " brilliance too - naturally ... right in this Awesome-Era. This Awesome-Era of " Transition ". And, you bet that's what it was ... and, as a direct result of keeping a positive attitude about things -- I for one ( of many ! ) also became tried & true " Vince-Fans ! ". Not only a Big-League " Talent " - but, also one of the nicest guys too ! As from the days of " The Tubes ! " - this guy Loved ! Music - loved Playing ! Music - and, most importantly ... he Loved ! Rock & Roll !! And, he could even Dangle a pretty good Cigi on-stage too - which, also had us Laughing ! I mean - come on ... just think K.R. ! - or Jimmy Page !! - as That's Rock & Roll !! But, either way - eventually ( and pretty quickly too ! ) I began to really Love Me Some Vince !! And yeah ... R.I.P. on that-note - as He did what the best do-best ... " Brought-Smiles !!! ". And, without any question at all - This ! 10/27/90 Paris, France Show at " Le Zenith " is, and has always been one of the Finest ! examples of " All " the Boys really " Grippin'-In-Sync ! " from start to finish during a Full-Show ! And, I mean come on ... as this ' Set List ' sure looks mighty-tasty too ! - which, I assure you -- It-Is !! ... Bucket > Sugaree ! - Minglewood ! - Jack-A-Roe ! - B.T. Wind ! - Bird Song !! ... and, as for Set II !! >>> China > Rider !!! - Sailor > Saint ! - and, So-Awesomely ... Playin' ! > Drums/Space > Playin' !! ... also with a Throwin' > NFA !!! They're On-It ! ... and You ! can just Feel-It !! As in fact, if my memory serves me ' correctly ' that-is ? ... I'm pretty sure that there was some mention of these Europe '90 Paris Shows in the Dennis McNally Book ! And, I think it was maybe even about the 10/28/90 Show kind of ' picking-up ' this 10/27/90 Show ?? Which, is really kind of funny when you think about that ' now ' - Ha ! But, really - with that said ... this is just off the Top ! of my " Dead-Head " - and, I'd have to go & research the surrounding details to be 100% certain. But, point being - either way ... it was right in the ' Middle ' of the Europe '90 Tour when the lights-dropped for the Grateful Dead in Paris, France ! - and, the Band was in ' Fine ! ' Mid-Tour form ... with " Everyone " playing well, really-well - and quite obviously too ... also looking to hit the Top of their Live-Game !! Definitely " Note-It " too - that Garcia !!! began to get " Real-Hot !! " right in the ' middle ' of this Tour - which, if you know this Europe '90 Tour inside/out ... you'd likely have to agree. They really wanted to make this ' Whole Tour ' Count ! - and, despite even some words from like say Phil Lesh himself ( in his Book ) - many of the Dead Family didn't even think that this Tour should have happened, being so-close to Brent's passing & all. But, even with that Kind & Respectful Viewpoint stated - there's is also a part of you that just has to think that even Brent himself would have wanted the " Show To Go On " - and probably ' fast ' too. As after all ... who's actually ' more ' Rock & Roll than Brent ? I don't know ? ... like maybe ... No One ?? I mean ... That Guy " Is ! " Rock & Roll !!! Or, maybe even much more eloquently said - like Bobby Weir once said it during ' another ' time ... " Music Makes Sad Times Better ". And yeah ... Cheers !! to that Very-Fine Notion !
