It always seemed like every fan had the 2-CD release ( obviously ) - but barely any Fans were able to get this rare " Interview " CD !?!! A most-definite " Need " for the G.D. CD Collectors - and each & every Completest Collector out there ... Phil Interviewed by David Gans ( of the Dead Head Hour ! ) - with Cover Art by Shawn Kenney ! ... & Photography by Robbi Cohn !! And, as the photos provided very well show ... a Killer ! Picture Disc CD with a photo of Phil sporting his 1980 " Graceful Duck ! " T-Shirt !!! And, I'm pretty-sure this photo is from the Laguna Seca run in May of '87, but ... can't say with 100% certainly. Though ... I think I do remember ! Ha !! So here is what Phil himself had to say about the amazing 1997 Fallout From The Phil Zone " Collection " >>> " It occurred to me a while back that since we'd been releasing more-or-less complete shows in our vault series, it might be interesting to search out some of the rarer material ( P.A. tapes and other reference sources culled from shows that wouldn't have made it out complete ), that could stand on its " historical relevance ". I also was looking for an excuse to put out some of my old favorites ..." Well -- this Bonus Disc CD offered here features a very cool & extremely informative ! Interview between David Gans & Phil Lesh, where they discuss the tracks selected for " Phil Zone " -- and Phil's personal thoughts, feelings and motivations behind the individual tracks selected for release. With ( of course) musical-segments throughout from the various " Fallout " Track list ! If you think back to '97 -- this was a Massive-one ! And the fact is that it was one of the very 1st compilation-approaches to releasing material from the coveted " Vault " that could not, or would not ever be selected for an entire release. Phil starts out explaining that this was an idea that him and his wife Jill came up with - and it just really took-form from there. Fact is, this is Phil !! himself picking many of his favorite songs, and the exceptional live versions. Lots of cool chatter too about other members of the Band, and how they approach live delivery, and their song-writing process, etc.. The cover is Very-Cool ! - and so is the Picture-Disc featuring " Phil " in his very University of Oregon Duck-esque 1980 " Graceful Duck !!! " T-Shirt ! From the now famous photo of Phil Lesh taken by Robbie Cohn ! ( at Laguna Seca '87 ?!? ). Indeed one of the neatest photos ever captured of Phil - at least in my opinion !
