Flap is unsealed. The crossed flags and handshake represent the friendship and cooperation between Great Britain and the Republic of Zaire. The assistance given by Zaire in the planning stages which started in 1971 continued into the actual Expedition when they provided 40 members of their Armed Forces and scientific institutions to accompany sections on the river and with scientific and support groups. This cover was franked in London on day of departure of the Expedition main body from Gatwick Airport on 4 October 1974. The flight to Kinshasa and then Lubumbashi was by a DC10 of Air Zaire, the National Airline. A sound cover with sound stamps. Scans at 1.5X show the complete lot.
