Born in Germany , he immigrated to the United States with his family when he was 16. Frederick immigrated to New York He worked as an accountant at a musical instrument store in Brooklyn, and some believe that the various experiences he gained during this time may have helped him later establish a company called Gretsch . In 1883, Friedrich Gretsch established a factory in Brooklyn, New York, manufacturing banjos , tambourines , and drums . This was the beginning of Gretsch. The founder, Friedrich Gretsch, died while traveling in his native Germany in 1895 , only 12 years after founding the company , leaving his wife, Rosa Gretsch, and their son, Fred Gretsch, Sr., who was only 15 years old, to die. Gretsch Sr.) suddenly takes over the business in place of his deceased father. People around them advised them to sell the company and live off the money, but they declared that they would run the company on their own in place of their dead husband and father. The second chairman, Fred Gretsch Sr., and the factory in Brooklyn, New York, to which he developed his business skills.Despite taking over the family business at the young age of 15, young Fred didn't run the company as immaturely as a typical teenager would. Whether it was his father's resemblance, or whether the genes of a great businessman passed down through his family, beyond the stable operation of the company, by 1916 he had made it one of America's leading importers and manufacturers of musical instruments, while at the same time displaying outstanding business acumen. New York in 20 years It is moving its headquarters to a 10-story building at 60 Broadway in Brooklyn .2.2. heydayGretsch's guitar ad from the 1930sEarly on, Gretsch provided acoustic archtop guitars for jazz musicians and a handful of flat top guitars for country western players. In 1935, one of the most important figures in Gretsch's history , Charles "Duke" Kramer, joined the company. Kramer continued to serve as a principal executive of the company, and until his death in 2005 he remained a principal advisor and ambassador to Grech.Third Chairman, Fred Gretch Jr.Fred Gretsch Sr. retired from the company in 1942 and left day-to-day operations to his son , Fred Gretsch Jr. However, after briefly managing the company during World War II, Gretsch Jr. left the company and served as a commander in the U.S. Navy . His younger brother , Bill Gretsch, took over as president in his place and led the company until 1948 . . However, Bill Grech, who ran the company in place of his older brother, died suddenly in 1948 due to poor health, and Grech Jr., who had been discharged from the military, took over the management again. Afterwards, Gretsch Jr. led the company to its most prosperous era since its founding. This period, spanning the 1950s and 1960s , was the period in which they established their identity as electric hollow body guitars. Using the first custom color finishes and introducing a variety of space age gadgets and gimmicks, Gretsch during this period produced the ' White Falcon ', 'White Penguin ', 'Country Gentleman ', 'Duojet ', '6120 Nashville ', and '6118 Series. ', etc. were developed. This was the period when Gretsch's representative works came out.Gretch at this time was supported by famous artists such as Chet Atkins , Eddie Cochrane, and Duane Eddy, and in terms of electric guitar sales, it surpassed the sales of Fender and Gibson , which remain legendary brands to this day , and at the same time achieved a breakthrough. In particular, the endorser contract with Chet Atkins had a great influence on the establishment of the identity of the hollow body guitar. He had a wide-ranging influence inside the company, including participating in management as a major advisor, and this led to Gretsch's flagship model being the hollow-body electric guitar.Starting in the 1950s , Gretsch began producing models equipped with the company's most representative pickup, the 'FilterTron ' pickup, which is still in use today. The Filtertron is the first humbucker type guitar pickup developed by American inventor and engineer Joseph Raymond Butts in 1954. It was the most commonly known humbucker type pickup until Gibson developed the PAF style humbucker pickup . The pickup is still installed on several Gretsch models to this day. class="DC4Eb3-p" allowfullscreen="" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jenWdylTtzs" loading="lazy" data-v-e0b03ec1="" style="box-sizing: border-box; display: block; max-width: 100%;">1964 February 9 The Beatles appear on The Ed Sullivan Show1964 On February 9 , George Harrison of the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show with a Gretsch guitar, and Gretsch's sales in the U.S. soared sharply.
