I use the following process to restore cast-iron. I start by putting it in electronics bath for 24 to 48 hours. It’s then hand cleaned and any remaining debris removed. It’s rubbed with the first coat of canola oil and put in the oven at 400° for 45 minutes , this process is repeated. Then it is removed and given one final coat and wipe to remove excess oil.
