Description: Very unusual and very funky little brooch from Grosse circa 1970. This is a rare find. Henkel and Grosse manufactured jewellery for Christian Dior and those he commissioned to design for him. They also made a great many of their own pieces, superbly crafted and usually 18ct gold-plated. I have tried to no avail to find any reference to this particular design as I have never seen it, or anything quite like it before. It consists of a gleaming gold-plated disc to which is attached a chunky circular 'plate' of faux Mother of Pearl (probably some type of resin) with a central gold boss. The iridescent pink, green and blue patterns in the MOP are very reminiscent of 1960s and 70s dress fabric and the simple geometry of the target-like circle is also a popular motif of the time. It bears the specific date 1970 on the reverse and is very much of its era. The brooch is in overall very good condition. There is some slight crazing on the surface of the resin but it is almost completely obscured by the flowing Mother of Pearl pattern. Please note also that the penultimate image shows the pin opened to its full extent. I don't know why it won't open any further but it does not prevent it from functioning perfectly well.Grosse lacks the cache of the Dior name but it is becoming increasingly collectable in its own right. \this brooch would be a great gift for a collector or for someone born in 1970!
