Description: This quilt is a hand appliqued piece made by a group of Hmong stitchers that visit my quilt shop in 1995. Their visits not only accomplished completing applique quilt blocks, but it also gave them an opportunity to gather socially and enjoy time together. Only 1 of the ladies spoke English at the time. I realized that me trying to explain how to applique to these expert stitchers made for much laughter on their part. Their skills were far superior to mine! The experience helped to introduce them to our community after leaving their homeland and in the years to come, their cultural gifts and presence have enriched all of us. The ladies completed the 9 blocks and I did the border and assembling of the final top. It was quilted by a friend in Michigan on her long arm machine. The pattern is from the Primitive Folk Art book by Laurene Sinema who owned The Quilted Apple in Phoenix, Arizona. There is a hanging sleeve attached should you wish to display the quilt on the wall. The blocks were completed in 1995 and stored away until 2018 when the top was finished. It was made in a non smoking home and studio. I hope someone will find a place for it as it deserves to be recognized. I am downsizing my quilt collection and part of the proceeds from this sale will be donated to The Hmong Association of Wausau, Wisconsin to honor the ladies who worked on this. Their names are listed on a label attached to the back of the quilt. Measures 63" X 63".Made with quilt shop quality fabric - 100% cotton, batting and a tone on tone backing. It is in like new condition. Thank you for visiting my listing.
