Description: You are bidding on a beautiful hand turned SONORAN DESERT IRONWOOD, with a natural or "LIVE" edge that I have signed and dated on the foot. This bowl is 4 ½" in diameter at the top and is 3" tall. This is a petite live edge bowl that makes up for in colors what it lacks in size. This Sonoran Desert Ironwood bowl is very beautiful and has deep brown colors as well as the live edge. This bowl is loaded with extraordinary colors, swirling grain, inclusions, and burl clusters. The item has been sanded to 1000 grit, then hand coated with 3 applications of friction polish to bring out the colors. Finally the item is the buffed using a 3 step process which not only protects the item but also provides a deep lasting gloss finish. The wood used for this piece is SONORAN DESERT IRONWOOD and is a highly prized wood from the Southwestern United States. The wood that is harvested died and typically fell over 100 years ago. It is one on the rarest of all North American woods and is extremely expensive and difficult to come by. The trees are very small in size even though they can live for over 1000 years. The wood grows so slowly and is so dense that it does not float in water. It is also one of the heaviest woods in the world. This piece is a Natural Edge Sonoran Desert Ironwood bowl that still has the bark attached to the top. It may appear to be large in the photos but this is a very petite bowl that is only 3” tall but makes a stunning display piece. It also displays the beautiful contrast of colors between the heart wood and the sap wood. The heart wood shows just about every shade of brown, tans, golds, and yellows with the sap wood changing over to yellow. This piece also has many hairline cracks, small voids, and insect art that you typically find in this kind of wood. If you would like additional photos, please let me know. You will be shipped the exact item that is shown.I have been a woodworker for over 20 years, making everything from complete custom cabinetry, to bowls, boxes, and pens on the lathe. However, due to health issues, I now only turn projects on the lathe to give myself something to do for the few hours a day I can stand. When you see pens which have same name, or look the exact same, the chances are that they obtain their kits from the same sources that I use. Since I do not need to "make a living" at this, I can offer the same product, made with great precision, and generally offer it to you for a much lower price. I have 100% positive feedback and will always ship within 48 hours of payment using USPS Ground Advantage. SHIPPING IS FREE within the United States! I accept and prefer PayPal for payment. I will allow returns within the first 30 days of receipt. Just send me an email and I will issue a return. All you must do is pay for the return shipping. If you have any questions or need additional photographs, please do not hesitate to ask.
