Description: This bookis a set of twoVolume 1 (red book)Soft cover 1993/11/10Volume 2 (green book)Soft cover 1990/3/9 About the product Norwegian Wood is Murakami Haruki's fifth full-length novel. It was published in two volumes by Kodansha on September 4, 1987, as an original work. The first volume was the best-selling soft cover novel of all time in Japan. It was made into a film in 2010 by director Tran Anh Hung. OverviewThe hardcover version was published by Kodansha on September 4, 1987, and released in paperback as a Kodansha Bunko on April 15, 1991, and a revised paperback version was released on September 9, 2004. The hardcover version has an afterword, but it is not included in the paperback version. The second and third chapters are based on the short story "Hotaru" (published in the January 1983 issue of Chuokoron). The short story "Blind Willow and the Sleeping Woman" (published in the December 1983 issue of Bungakukai) is also part of the same genre that leads to this work, but unlike "Hotaru," there is no direct story-line connection between the two. The epigraph is "For many festivals." Murakami has said about this book: "This story is basically about casualties. It's about the casualties that died or were lost around me, and about the casualties that died and were lost within me." The protagonist is from Kobe, entered university in 1968, the same year as Murakami, majored in theater at a private university in Tokyo, and the dormitory in which the protagonist lived was modeled after Wakeijuku, where Murakami also lived, so it is sometimes seen as an "autobiographical novel," but Murakami denies this.
