Michel worked for the Pickard Studio in Chicago from 1893 to 1905. He specialized in floral. After 1905 he worked for the Stouffer Studio.(Reference: Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China)This plate has also the mark P&B, probably Pitkin & Brooks of Chicago. A number of Pickard artist worked for Pitkin &Brooks, since the company purchased some walk-in decorated china from individual artists. This plate is decorated with hand painted purple violets and green foliageon a yellow and green background. The border around is heavily gilded and decorated with a black outline, in a Art Nouveau style.The plate is 8 1/2" in diameter. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or repairs.
