HEISEY Uranium UG Custard Glass Trumpet Vase

Description: From my private collection!Original antique, vintage Uranium UG Custard Glass Trumpet Vase.....Souvenir of FARMERS ALLIANCE----an American agrarian movement during the 1870's & '80s that sought to improve the economic conditions for farmers through the creation of cooperatives & political advocacy.This souvvenir trumpet vase was manufactured by the A. H. Heisey Glass Company, of Newark, Ohio. Custard Glass: as the name implies, is more yellowish than milky & is opaque. Uranium was added as a colourant to make it pale yellow. And, YES, it GLOWS under UV light. This particular custard glass piece is shown in Heisey's PANEL BOTTOM Pattern & is nicely decorated with a lovely hand painted red rose, rose buds, green leaf accenting & red cursive lettering, as well as having some highlights of metallic gold along top scalloped rim.....please see my images.Vase measures 6 1/4 inches high & has a diameter of 3 1/4 inches across scalloped top.EXCELLENT CONDITION after 115+ years....floral decor retains vivid paint, & cursive lettering is INCREDIBLE!However, it does show some light wear to accent gold----not unusual after all these years.An ideal item for those who collect HEISEY glass, uranium glass, pattern glass or souvenirs of vintage farming/political activities.A lovely (& historically significant) piece! The Farmers' Alliance was an organized agrarian economic movement among American farmers that developed & flourished ca. 1875. The movement included several parallel but independent political organizations — the National Farmers' Alliance and Industrial Union among the white farmers of the South, the National Farmers' Alliance among the white & black farmers of the Midwest & High Plains, where the Granger movement had been strong, & the Colored Farmers' National Alliance and Cooperative Union, consisting of the African American farmers of the South.One of the goals of the organization was to end the adverse effects of the crop-lien system on farmers in the period following the American Civil War. The Alliance also generally supported the government regulation of the transportation industry, establishment of an income tax in order to restrict speculative profits, & the adoption of an inflationary relaxation of the nation's money supply as a means of easing the burden of repayment of loans by debtors.
