Description: This 10" 78rpm Decca shellac record (number F2468) features two songs recorded by the cast of the 1931 production of "Nina Rosa" at the Gaiety Theatre London. "Nina Rosa" was a musical set in Peru, music by Sigmund Romberg, lyrics by Irving Caesar. The musical moved to the Gaiety Theatre in August 1931 (from the Lyceum Theatre) and closed in October 1931. In September 1931 the cast recorded 4 songs from the show at the Decca Studios. Robert Chisholm (1898 - 1960), Australian tenor, played the villain, and sings his big number "The Gaucho March" a duet with Helen Gilliland (1897 - 1942), Northern Irish soprano,on side A of this record. Helen Gilliland was playing the title role and on side B of this record sings "My First Love, My Last Love".During WWII Helen Gilliland joined ENSA and when travelling to the Far East in 1942 the ship she was on was torpedoed by the Japanese Navy and there were no survivors. Our researches show Helen Gilliland made 5 records, 4 with Columbia and this one with Decca.
