Description: Henry W. Coe State Park: Trail & Camping MapsThough the park has expanded since this map was published, the map is still quite useful. It is printed on two sides. One side shows the entire park (as of 1999) in shaded relief and depicts roads, trails, creeks, backpacking zones, and campsites. The reverse side is a detail of the more developed Western Area of the park and shows topographic contours rather than relief shading; in addition, the Western Area side includes point to point trail mileage to the nearest tenth mile. This latter feature is an advantage over other maps, for the distances were obtained by walking the trails with a measuring wheel, which makes them more accurate than the official map; the newer maps employed GPS technology to obtain distances a method which does not take into account minor twists in the trail and irregular terrain. The most readily accessible parts of the Western Area were mostly unburned by the huge Lick Fire of 2007, and is little changed since 1999. The map is printed in five colors. The publication includes information on campsites, backcountry regulations, and climate. Scale, full park: About 1: 54,500 (1 inch = about 0.86 miles). Western Area: About 1:22,600 (1 inch = about 0.36 miles). Size: About 17½ x 30 inches.Published by buddha nature maps & books, 1999.
