Description: Adelma Grenier Simmons was a bit of a legend in this part of the world for her incredible knowledge of herbs and uses- medicinal as well as culinary. She found her home in Coventry, Connecticut, and had an herb farm and restaurant. I remember as a child visiting the house and the barn. My mother and her friends would meet at the luncheons and this book was signed by Ms Simmons at one of those luncheons. I am a gardener- and not an herbalist, but looking through his book I can see a wealth of knowledge- herbal recipes for the curious and some really good information for those that are looking for a history of herbs and their medicinal uses- with a focus on those that are grown in New England. There are recipes that are relevant to homesteading and living off the grid. The book even has another element for the woodblock illustrations done by a local artist from Vermont- Mary Azarian. an aside- after Ms Simmons died the estate was in turmoil for some time due to her husband who was an intellectual but not a home caretaker. He eventually died and the home was bought and moved somewhere by a man who wanted to preserve it- I guess you can look it up online if you want to follow the story.
