Description: Plaque inscribed with the poem, “High Flight,” by John Gillespie Magee, Jr., presented to Richard B. Heinisch, a U.S. Air Force B-47 Stratojet Navigator/Bombardier with the 96th Bomb Wing, Dyess AFB, TX, from 1958-1962. Attached to the back of the plaque is a handwritten note from Josh Hinton, B-47E Aircraft Commander, Dyess AFB, TX, that reads, “CENTER THE P.D.I.” – “I WISH YOU WELL AND GIVE YOU SECOND STATION FOR THE REST OF LIFE.” The note is dated October 18, 2008, so the plaque may be from a 96th Bomb Wing Association or B-47 Stratojet Association event (Richard Heinisch was a member of both groups). The plaque measures approximately 9” x 12". The plaque's plastic bag is included. The plaque is from the estate of Richard “Bubba” Heinisch (1934 - 2018), a U.S. Air Force B-47 Stratojet Navigator/Bombardier with the 96th Bombardment Wing (Medium), F-100 Super Sabre fighter pilot with the 352nd Tactical Fighter Squadron, and TWA pilot for 23 years. The plaque appears to be in very good to excellent used condition with signs of wear and age, such as minor scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, indentations, smudges, and some wear on the corners (especially the bottom corners). Some of these imperfections are most noticeable when the plaque is viewed at certain angles and lighting. It’s possible that some of these imperfections are a result of the manufacturing process.
