Call number on spine, stamps on foredges, and various library markings on endpapers and title page. All pages foxed, but text otherwise unmarked, and binding tight. In the back is a large folding map depicting the second voyage of Christopher Columbus in 1494, after the maps of Juan de la Cosa; this map has been backed with canvas, having once split along the folds. There are also several large dampstains on the map. Black ribbon inside back cover once held this map in place, but has torn off at one end. On the whole, a good, sturdy copy for reading and reference. Item #186539 Ramon de la Sagra (1798-1871) was a Spanish scientist, politician, and anarchist, known for both his botanical writings and radical pamphlets. This history of Cuba was originally published in 13 parts, the last of which was completed in 1857. Offered here are parts 1 and 2 only, bound as a single volume; does NOT include the later volumes with colored plates. The text is in Spanish. Contains a large foldout map of Cuba (in addition to the aforementioned canvas-backed one) followed by 11 smaller maps. Measures approx. 16.25" x 11.25"
