Description: Historic BILL OF RIGHTS United States Constitution AMENDMENTS 1789 Newspaper Offered is an original, collectible newspaper (NOT a copy/reproduction): THE PENNSYLVANIA PACKET & DAILY ADVERTISER, Philadelphia, October 6, 1789 * Ratification of the "Bill of Rights" - Congress * United States Constitution - Amendments Arguably the most significant documents of late 18th century in American history would be the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. This issue contains the latter, printed in its entirety as submitted to the states for ratification. In September of 1789 the U.S. Congress passed and sent for ratification twelve amendments to the Constitution. This issue contains on page 3 the full text of those twelve amendments, prefaced with: "The Convention of a number of the states having at the time of their adopting the Constitution expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And an extending the ground of public confidence in the government, will best insure the beneficent ends of its institutions--RESOLVED, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of American on Congress assembled, two-thirds of both Houses concurring, that the following Articles be proposed to the legislatures of the several states as amendments to the Constitution of the United States, all or any of which articles, when ratified by three-fourths of the said legislatures, to be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of the said Constitution,vis:..." What follows is the complete printing of the twelve articles proposed. Ten would ultimately be ratified to become the Bill of Rights. This text is signed in type at its conclusion by Frederick Augusta Muhlenberg, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and John Adams, Vice-President of the United States, & President of the Senate. Complete in four pages, archival strengthening at the blank spine and a bit at the central fold, a few minor chips at the top of the front leaf with staining here as well, but with the noted content on page 3 this causes no effect. A nice presentation of this very significant content. Note: A newspaper dated October 3 with the same content sold in the Heritage Auction of July 8, 2023 for $106,250. Please Note: All of our offerings are 100% authentic! We do not offer reprints or reproductions of any kind. They are guaranteed to be original! Links to Archival Storage Options & Certificates of Authenticity Are Below! Historical reports may be beautiful or ugly, but they are always informative. While we rejoice in the beautiful (heroic, discovery, amazing feats, etc.), we at Historys Newsstand also offer "the ugly" for we are determined to learn from the wrongs of the past - understanding, to do so, we must be willing to look these wrongs directly in the face and shout "NO MORE!". It is for this reason many Black Americans collect historic slave ads, Jews collect reports regarding the Holocaust, women collect coverage of the Womens Suffrage Movement, etc.. If you find any to be offensive, we agree! Hopefully this is an indication we are moving in the right direction. Domestic Shipping Policy... For this specific item, A U.S. winner pays $10.00 S&H.
