Description: Here offered from the famous Freiberg district is a pretty amazing historic specimen dating back around 100 years. The specimen features small crystals and masses of bright red proustite on a matrix of galena and skutterudite. Some of the proustite is perched on what I think are small acanthite crystals (5th photo). On the galena cubes are thin coatings of skutterudite, an ore of nickel. The core of the specimen is made up of sphalerite interbedded with other sulfide minerals. Fabulous from this famous historic mine. Even in Germany, specimens from Freiberg and Saxony in general are highly sought after and hard to come by anymore. There are multiple areas of interest on this specimen that warrant further study. 7.7x6.5x2 cm
