Description: Great circulated historical Token commemorating preliminaries of peace between Britain and France before the Treaty of Amiens in March 1802. The Token is dated 1801. The Token is about 25 mm across, and weighs about 3.9 g. The Obverse depicts An oval shield in the form of the British flag mounted on crossed swords. The Legend and inscription read: PRELIMINARIES OF PEACE / BETWEEN / GREAT BRITAIN AND FRANCE / SIGNED / OCTOBER 1ST 1801 The Reverse features: Within a wreathed edge a spilled cornucopia, a barrel (right), the dove of peace above; two ships under sail in distance (left and center), one at anchor (right). The Legend reads: 'PEACE COMMERCE & PLENTY'. Signed 'DAVIES' on exergue. Historical Note. British merchants were anxious to trade openly on the continent again. Indeed, on the reverse, the barrel is labeled to go "TO FRANCE". After considerable negotiations, which were held in England, a peace treaty was signed at Amiens, in France, in March 1802. France had declared war on the United Kingdom in 1793 during the French Revolution Your token will be shipped as soon as payment is received. If you have any questions let me know before you bid.
