Description: Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1920's political corruption-themed western, HOOK AND LADDER, released in 1924 by Universal Pictures and directed by Edward Sedgwick. The image features a close interior publicity shot of cowboy-turned-fireman Ace Cooper (Hoot Gibson), depicted wearing the hat and jacket of a Los Angeles Fire Department (L.A.F.D.) operator/fireman as he glances off-camera. As indicated near the left border, this photograph was taken by Jack Freulich, the highly-renowned and prolific Hollywood photographer working at Universal during this period. It is in fine- condition. Cowboy Ace Cooper (Hoot Gibson), to avoid arrest, becomes a fireman, falls in love with the chief's daughter, Sally Drennan (Mildred June), and wins her in spite of the efforts of a crooked politician to separate them. The big climax of the story is reached in the burning of the O'Rourke mansion (one of the most spectacular fire scenes ever filmed) in which Ace saves Sally and the cowboy proves that the training which brought him such sore muscles and the other firemen so many laughs was far from wasted. The cast includes Frank Beal, Edward Davis, and Philo McCullough.
