Description: [zipedit] HP Pavilion PCs Made Easy: The Official HP Guide (Windows XP) by Nancy Stevenson (Paperback) This is a guide book in The Official HP Guide series, written by Nancy Stevenson and designed for various HP Pavilion PCs in the 500 series and some of them in the 700 series with Windows XP Home Edition on all of them, manufactured in 2002. This book was released in 2002, though the copyright year is 2003. It features basics on how to get started on using HP Pavilion PCs from 2002, plus mastering the Windows XP operating system from 2001, which worked well for first-time computer users along with first-time Windows XP users when such HP Pavilion desktop PCs first came out. It also covers experiencing a very diverse selection of pre-installed software programs, such as Microsoft Windows Media Player 8 (with the full radio edit version of David Byrne - Like Humans Do), the HP version of MusicMatch Jukebox (with a 26-second-long sample version of David Gray - Please Forgive Me), Windows Movie Maker 1.1, Internet Explorer 6, Outlook Express 6, Easy Internet Sign-Up, My Photo Center, Microsoft Works 6.0, Corel WordPerfect Office 2002 (for home and business purposes), Microsoft Money 2002, Inuit Quicken 2002, Sonic Foundry Super Duper Music Looper XPress, Kazoo Studio, McAfee VirusScan Online, and lots more. There is also information about the HP Tour Guide (a Microsoft Agent-based software program featuring Victor as its tour guide character and describing facts about classic HP Pavilion PCs), preparing an HP Pavilion PC from the Windows XP era for the first time (alongside an HP OfficeJet printer), basics of file management, personal computer experience customization, listening to Internet radio in MusicMatch Jukebox (which may not work anymore due to discontinued support), and its accessories: an era-appropriate 4:3 monitor, a multimedia keyboard and a mouse.Plus, this book covers getting online with MSN (Microsoft Network), AOL (America Online), EarthLink and CompuServe (although these Internet service providers may not work anymore either), diagrams of computer RAM types (DIMM, DDR DIMM, and RIMM), e-mail netiquette, and Internet safety rules. Additionally, information about the default Microsoft PC games is covered. They are 3D Pinball: Space Cadet (a demo/trial version of Full Tilt! Pinball developed by Cinematronics and published by Maxis for Windows 95) and MSN Gaming Zone-based board games named Internet Checkers, Internet Backgammon, and so on. Sadly, the original online play servers for them shut down in 2019, though a screenshot of Internet Checkers in action can still be seen in this book to this day. Since WildTangent GameChannel games such as Speedway (2000), Space Rocks (1999), BlasterBall Wild (2001), Gem Master 2 (2001), SabreWing 2 (2001), and Virtual Warfare (2001) were pre-installed on various HP Pavilion desktop PCs at the time, having a glimpse of the names of some of those titles on some of this book's pages is also possible. The book's front cover looks like it could use restoration as it has some wear due to a few bendy sections plus a slight cover curl, and some of the pages are a bit worn (see the photos of them above). Most other pages are intact, so the book is in good condition and has been read several times. There are a few odd facts about this HP guidebook to consider keeping in mind: 1. As mentioned above, the HP Tour Guide software is covered in this book. In order for users to learn more about the Windows XP operating system itself and its features, users could also view the Flash-animated Windows XP Tour software, yet the Windows XP Tour is not mentioned anywhere in the book for whatever reason. 2. For some reason, while this book describes Windows XP's default PC games such as 3D Pinball: Space Cadet (as mentioned above), it does not show any screenshots of pre-installed WildTangent GameChannel games, though again, the names for some of those games can be seen. 3. In several screenshots, there is an icon for HP Learning Adventure, a software program featuring various pre-installed learning titles developed and published by The Learning Company, such as children's PC games like Reader Rabbit titles and The ClueFinders' Math Adventures Ages 9-12: Mystery in the Himalayas (1998 / 1999), as well as family reference programs, but images of the actual HP Learning Adventure software are not featured, despite it being described alongside other pre-installed educational software programs like Microsoft Encarta Online Deluxe. If you are looking for a way of going on a nostalgia trip to relive how various HP Pavilion desktop PCs from 2002 worked (in the style of learning about them and their features all over again like new, so to speak), rediscovering some things about said PCs you may have forgotten about, or getting ideas for your dream retro PC, this is the classic computer guide book for you. This book is a fantastic piece of history to have since it is an exciting look at what Microsoft Windows operating systems and Hewlett-Packard (HP) desktop computers used to be like back in the day. It's also an excellent reminder of what the industries of computers, Internet, hardware, and software were like over two decades ago. Additionally, it's a great reminder of what the ultimate desktop computer experience was like in the United States and Canada back in the early 2000s as well. This book, with 20 chapters containing lots of black-and-white screenshots and informative text, will bring you back to the truly golden years of Microsoft, Windows and HP. Everything in this book is worth reliving unlike today's unacceptable nonsense related to Microsoft, Windows, HP, and more.I accept PayPal.
