Description: Wonderful extra-large cross stitch needlepoint sampler featuring a variety of popular figural motifs such as crosses, anchors, flaming hearts, baskets of flowers, gardening tools, hunting gear, birds, etc. in addition to the usual alphabet. It is in excellent condition for its age. Very little yellowing or staining of the background fabric and little to no fading of the stitching. Even the reds and golds are still bold and vibrant! It looks like either there was a hole in the breast of the owl that has been repaired, or it is missing a few stitches. It is signed Girschitzeck M. at the bottom. It is not dated, but based on the style, I suspect it was made sometime between 1870 and 1910, thereabouts. This piece came from a Maine estate and I will be listing a few others from the same collection. Inner dimensions of frame are 21 1/2" 37 1/2", outer dimensions are 23"39 1/4". Professionally framed. It's surprisingly heavy, so make sure you have a proper stud or timber to screw into for hanging.
