We service and sell these Selectrics with the intention you will be using it for years to come. Machines are warrantied to perform as expected for 90 days - make sure to use it from time to time to keep it operating properly! Keep in mind that these machines are designed for use every day so if you don't use it regularly make sure to keep a sheet of paper in it and turn it on & use all of the keys occasionally to make sure that it performs properly. There is a great deal of care involved in shipping each IBM Selectric typewriter. Every Selectric we sell has the inner carriage secured to the outer case just like it was done from the factory (we are the only one on ebay that does this to ensure that they arrive in good working order) and then wrapped in a double layer of large-cell bubblewarp and placed in a new smaller carton and then placed in a new over-sized double-wall carton. After that the remaining space voids are filled with packing peanuts. The care used in properly boxing the Selectric is VERY important. The materials used to package the units cost over $40 alone (packing peanuts, large cell bubblewrap, double walled corrugated boxes, chassis securing screws, dowels, peg board (you'll see), etc. !!! Make sure to remove the chassis securing screws from the bottom before setting down on your desk or table - securing screws will scratch it!Many people who are not in the typewriter business can look at one of these big, heavy, metal, typewriters and be fooled into thinking they are relatively easy to package. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Although they are are a heavy duty, metal machine, the rigors these machines go through during transportation to your door can be death on a machine unless the person selling the typewriter REALLY knows the typewriter itself. This is NOT something that someone who is selling some typewriter they bought at an estate auction or flea market could possibly do correctly. There are many sellers on eBay selling Selectrics. Many ebayers actually know nothing about the typewriter they are selling. We look forward to your business!!! Immediately following that in the late 1970's IBM introduced the same model featuring a self correcting key on the lower right side of the keyboard which eliminated the need for the little white correction tabs. You could hit a single key, the typewriter would back up, blot out the typing error and you could then type over that error with the correct letter. This model also included dual pitch (either 10 or 12 spaces per inch) and line-and-a-half vertical spacing. It was quite a break through in typewriters.Like its predecessor, the Selectric II was available in standard and wide-carriage sizes and in various colors, including red and blue as well as traditional neutral colors. The Selectric II used the same type balls, which were available in many fonts, including symbols for science and mathematics, script, Old English, and more than a dozen ordinary alphabets. The type balls came in two styles: One had a flip-up black plastic lever that could break off, and the other had a metal spring clip with two wire wings that squeezed together and did not break. Over the years, there were several different cartridge styles for the ribbons, even in the same model Selectric, and they were not interchangeable. The IBM Selectric is the ultimate typewriter! It has all the features of the the Selectric I plus a redesigned keyboard and 96 character type element. This typewriter dates from the mid 1980s, and thousands of similar ones are still in operation in government offices, schools, banks, and many other businesses to this day. It came in many different exterior colors. It comes in a Dual pitch (10 & 12 characters per inch), Correcting Selectric.
