Now, before you start sending me hate mail, hear me out. This isn't aimed at cruisers, or sportbikes, or any subsection of motorcycle riders other than the rider who thinks he doesn't need any professional training, and that his loud pipes make him safer than any stupid rider course could. These folks ride many different types of bikes. I've seen them. The "Hurt Study" (google it), which investigated over 4000 motorcycle wrecks, concluded that 90% of motorcycle accidents happen to people who have had no formal training. That's a heck of a number, and I'm certain that having loud pipes would not have done much to protect those riders. The most common cause of single-vehicle motorcycle wrecks is "failure to negotiate a curve." No pipe is going to help you around a curve. But a good rider education class will.
