The MARU SPECIALs offered a very popular combination of period photographs (some with rare detail), line drawings, and affordability. Although printed with Japanese text, the quality of the illustrations helped transcend the difficulty of understanding and regardless of the difficulty of translation, the MARU SPECIALs remain very popular with naval historians and advanced military modelers and these out-of-print gems are still frequently referenced. This particular MARU SPECIAL features the most powerful battleships ever built: the behemoth YAMATO and MUSASHI which displaced 72,800 tons and armed with nine 18.1-inch main guns. Although incredibly powerful, their combat record was limited during the war – the MUSASHI was sunk at the Battle of the Philippine Sea in October 1944, and the YAMATO was sunk in April 1945 off Okinawa. The condition of this 68-page, 7.25 x 10.25 inch softcover is GOOD+ bordering on VERY GOOD.
