The Illinois Watch Co. Grade 161A Bunn Special 60hrs Pocket Watch has long been considered to be one of the best American Railroad Pocket Watch Models of all time. It was certainly one of the best Pocket Watch movements ever made with refined and high-grade design and very fancy engine-turned damascening throughout. The Illinois Bunn Special Railroad grade movements were renowned for their precision as well as the long power reserve at 60 hours which was certainly an advantageous feature against competitors. It has many top grade features such as Motor Barrel, Fully Jeweled at 21j, and Solid Gold Wheel Train and Jewel Settings. It also comes with Anti-magnetic Elinvar hairsprings. This particular example also comes in a White Gold Filled Railroad Case signed with ‘Bunn Special Model 29’ inside. Condition-wise the watch is running well and strong that appears to have been serviced some time ago and kept in a great operating state. However, we do not make any guarantee on timekeeping or function as we don’t know its service history. We strongly recommend to have antique pocket watches fully serviced before putting it to regular use and this will help extend the life of the timepiece as well. The decision and responsibility to service the watch is made solely by the end-user. Cosmetically the watch is in great shape with very minor brassing wear that is only visible under magnification. The enamel dial has no hairline but there are some chips to the edge with the most pronounced one outer peripery of the 37min marker. There are also a couple blemish spots such as the one on the sub-seconds dial. Overall it is one of the most sought-after watches for American Railroad Pocket Watch collectors in great shape.
