Description: Item for auction is a 13.49g fragment of the Imilac pallasite meteorite, originally found in the Atacama desert in 1822. This is a splendid specimen of this special Atacama aerolite! Imilac is classified as a stony–iron pallasite and are highly prized by meteorite collectors due to its high concentration of beautiful olivine grains. Numerous masses were found in a valley to the SW of Imilac. The total weight of the Imilac fall is estimated to be around 1,000 kilograms (2,200 lb). The primary strewn field is long about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi). Pallasites are widely considered the most beautiful meteorites, and Imilac is among the most coveted. Less than 0.2% of all meteorites are pallasites, a rare type of meteorite whose silicate components crystallized. Like nearly all pallasitic meteorites, Imilac originated from the mantle-core boundary of an asteroid that broke apart during the early history of our solar system. This is an exceptional specimen that would make a perfect addition to your collection, and comes with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale. Big Kahuna combines shipping, and addresses must be in the English language, to facilitate customs input at US Postal Service. Non-English addresses cannot be shipped, and may incur additional fees for handling. We no longer ship to China or Italy.
