Description: MARION Indiana Marion & Mississinewa Valley Rail Road Co. $5 Jan. 5, 1854 PMG Very Fine 25 Net Wolka 1515-01The railroad was chartered in 1852 to build a line from Union City, IN to Marion, IN, a distance of some 50-60 miles. In 1854 it took over the property of the Marion and Logansport Railroad but never completed the route. The Union and Logansport Railroad was incorporated on January 5, 1863, and four days later bought the unfinished Marion & Mississinewa Valley Rail Road Co. The five dollar design features the same passenger train vignette that Southern Bank Note Company later used on the T15 Confederate $50 Treasury Note. This is flanked by portraits of a young woman at left and William Henry Harrison at right. PMG has commented on the pieces missing and repairs.
